Igbo Community in Benin City Backs Okpebholo for Governor, Citing Broken Promises by PDP

Igbos in Benin City Endorse Monday Okpebholo, Vow Never to Support PDP Again

In a significant boost to his gubernatorial campaign, Monday Okpebholo has secured the endorsement of the Igbo community in Benin City. During a campaign rally held on Friday, 23rd August 2024, the community expressed their full support for Okpebholo, citing their dissatisfaction with the current administration and the unmet promises of the past.

The Igbos in Benin City have long felt abandoned, particularly in terms of infrastructure development. Their grievances stem from the broken promises made by Governor Godwin Obaseki during his 2020 campaign, where he assured the construction of critical roads in their communities. Unfortunately, these promises were never fulfilled, leaving the communities in a state of neglect and underdevelopment.

As the 2024 gubernatorial election approaches, the community has turned its hopes towards Monday Okpebholo, who has pledged to address their concerns and deliver on the infrastructure projects that have been long overdue. Okpebholo assured the gathering that, if elected governor, he would prioritize the construction of roads and other essential developments in their areas, which have been ignored for far too long.

The community leaders, speaking at the rally, voiced their frustration with the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and vowed never to support the party again. They believe that Monday Okpebholo, with his track record and commitment, is the candidate who will bring about the much-needed change in their communities.

This endorsement marks a pivotal moment in Okpebholo’s campaign, as the support of the Igbo community in Benin City is seen as a key factor in securing votes in the upcoming election. As the rally concluded, the atmosphere was charged with renewed hope and determination, with many in the community looking forward to the positive changes that Okpebholo has promised to bring.
